Hope is blossoming amidst the devastation for farmers in Garissa Township after the River Tana floods tore through their livelihoods. Today, area Member of Parliament Dekow M. Barrow provided a ray of light by donating iron sheets and tents, offering much-needed relief to families struggling to rebuild.

MP Dekow acknowledged the double tragedy faced by these farmers – their crops and homes ravaged by the floods, leaving them vulnerable and displaced. "This donation is a vital step in our broader efforts to help them regain their lost footing," he asserted.

He pledged his unwavering support in strengthening sustainability and food security in the township, aiming to empower the farmers for a brighter future.

Representing the Garissa Farmers Network, Chairman Dr. Abdi Farah expressed the community's immense gratitude for the timely aid. "These iron sheets and tents will bring crucial shelter and security to the most vulnerable families," he stated.

However, Dr. Abdi emphasized the need for continued support, highlighting the plight of over 7,000 farmers whose income and very way of life were washed away by the floods. He urged County, National, and humanitarian agencies to step up and empower these resilient farmers to reclaim their livelihoods.

Garissa County Commissioner Solomon Chesut echoed this sentiment, assuring the farmers of the government's commitment to their well-being. He spoke of various programs specifically aimed at alleviating the suffering of flood victims across the county.
